Leigh Creek Coalfield Diesel Mechanical Servicing and Repairs

The South Australian Government, through the Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) assumed full control and management responsibility of the Leigh Creek Coalfield on 1 January 2024. DEM has implemented a program of works to address spontaneous combustion where it is safe to do so. This is principally being done through the removal of heated material where spontaneous combustion occurs and replacing that with inert cover. Managing and manipulating surface water flow across the site, thereby reducing erosion and exposure of heated areas to oxygen, is another important activity to reduce spontaneous combustion. To undertake this work, DEM has engaged two experienced site operators. The work is done utilising a range of mobile and static equipment, that includes: o Prime mover o Caterpillar 950F loader o Caterpillar 12G grader o 2 x Caterpillar D7 bulldozers o Caterpillar 329L excavator o Caterpillar 40t articulated dump truck (no longer serviceable) o Replacement 25 – 40t articulated dump truck (procurement process currently underway) o Quad axel low loader (procurement process currently underway) o Isuzu 8t water truck o 2 x 70 Series Toyota Land cruiser o 2 x Able generators o Clark 5t forklift
