Training Authority Maritime Warfare (TA-MW) is the principal warfare training authority of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). TA-MW provides warfare training for all rank levels from Seaman to Captain via a wide variety of courses ranging from one week to two years. These courses provide instruction in basic and advanced warfare (procedural and tactical).
Warfare training is generally very complex and trainees can experience a variety of psychological stress. Trainees may be impacted by pressure, fatigue and psychological stress as a result of complex and stressful situations. Thus, TA-MW requires an industry partner to assist and facilitate the delivery of this element of training, Performance Coaching.
Performance Coaching assists trainees cope with pressure and identify their strengths and areas for improvement in order to achieve their goals. It helps them identify their specific development needs and create a tailored development plan to address them. This individualised attention is the key advantage of performance coaching over other development methods such as workshops, which often provide generalised information that is not relevant to the individual.
TA-MW is located within HMAS Watson; however, schools are located at various Defence establishments. Suitable facilities and training systems exist at HMAS Watson, HMAS Stirling, HMAS Cerberus, HMAS Penguin, HMAS Waterhen and other Defence sites to facilitate delivery of training.
