The Blue Lake in Mount Gambier is a popular recreational and tourist location, receiving a high amount of visitors (local and non-local) each year. The Blue Lake has a 3.5km footpath around its perimeter, which many people use for walking and running. In order to enable the path to be utilised at night time, particularly in winter, solar lighting was installed in 2015. This lighting has improved night time security; provided safer pedestrian environments; and improved the use of public spaces by opening them up to twilight and night use. A total of 93 solar lights were installed, as well as 11 hardwired lights located in proximity to the existing tourist building.Given the time that has elapsed since the solar lights were installed, Council is undertaking a two (2) year project for the replacement of these lights. Individual lights may need to be assessed for immediate replacement and prioritised for year 1 (2025/26).Number of replacement lights across the two years may depend on the cost of the proposal for total replacement and allocation of the Budget.Note: the hardwired lights are excluded from this tender.
