Mobile Energy Training Unit

The Mobile Energy Training Unit (METU) concept is a pilot initiative designed to deliver flexible, high quality energy related training to regional and remote communities across Western Australia (WA). The METU will comprise a truck and dolly trailer fitted with a standalone power system, providing a fully mobile training platform capable of supporting both traditional electrical competencies and emerging clean energy technologies.

The Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD, the Department), in partnership with South Regional TAFE (SRTAFE), is seeking to develop a single pilot vehicle. This procurement is for the construction and delivery of the METU including:

• a final design of the METU, based on the designs provided in the Attachments to this Request, aligning to the supplier’s construction techniques;
• integration of all components onto the donor chassis (build and procure donor truck in the one process); and
• the final design and build of the trailer, including mounted stand-alone power system.

The METU will focus on supporting the regional deployment of clean energy related training activities across WA, supporting students in geographically dispersed locations and enabling access to Aboriginal communities, fostering inclusive participation in the energy industry. Delivery will focus on energy related and electrical pre-apprentice, apprentice and Capstone revision and assessment programs, ensuring candidates have access to the practical facilities required to undertake electrical licensing examinations.
