Victorians love fish and fishing. Recreational fishing offers terrific opportunities for people of all ages, skills, abilities and backgrounds to enjoy a fun and healthy activity and build social connections. Our aboriginal heritage is also deeply linked to fishing, with thousands of years of indigenous fishing history in Victoria. The Victorian Government is committed to increasing the number and diversity of people fishing and enjoying Victoria’s local seafood, growing healthy and sustainable fisheries sectors and contributing to Victoria’s social and economic prosperity. Every Victorian should have the opportunity to fish. The Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) is a statutory authority established by the Victorian Government to facilitate the effective management of Victoria’s fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way that ensures their ongoing sustainability. The VFA functions to ensure that the Government, the recreational and commercial fishing sectors, and the Victorian community can share in and obtain the benefits from sustainable fisheries management. We work closely with our partners and stakeholders, to plan and deliver great outcomes for fisheries and the Victorian people. Our vision is healthy and sustainable fisheries for all Victorians. The VFA is proactive in encouraging all Victorians to fish, specifically focusing on the involvement of women, children and people from diverse backgrounds. We educate fishers and the community about responsible fishing practices and promote stewardship of our precious resource. The number of women in recreational fishing has increased rapidly in the eight years since the Victorian Government established an award-winning network for female fishers, which has been expanded to include recreational boating, becoming the Women in Recreational Fishing and Boating Network. Fishing and boating play a crucial role in:bringing people together and creating wonderful memories; improving the mental health and well-being of Victorians; and supporting Victoria’s regional economies via the purchase of bait, fuel, accommodation, food, etc. which is why the Victorian government is investing so heavily, with a further $96 million to improve fishing, boating, piers and aquaculture allocated during this term of government. This is in addition to the $81 million invested into recreational fishing by the Victorian Government since 2014. Fishing has never been better in Victoria and a recent Australian government survey tells us more than 1 million Victorian’s now go fishing every year – we reached our Target One Million milestone, and we are not stopping there. Additional information about the VFA is available at www.vfa.vic.gov.au The VFA is seeking responses to this Request for Tender (RFT) for the supply and distribution of 82,500 Little Angler Kits to approximately 1,815 sites across Victoria.
